Every student learns differently. Some are more receptive to lecture-style learning, while some need a more hands-on approach. Typically, public schools do not offer such individualized learning styles students often need.
Rosa Parks is more than just a school, we are a community of dedicated teachers who realize that every student learns differently becuase every student is unique. We welcome the opportunity to meet each student's individual needs and offer a hybrid program that incorporates project-based learning with more traditional instruction to create a customized plan for each student.
In creating a learning plan, all Rosa Parks students and staff participate in Advisory. This is more than just a class period, but a partnership between students and staff to create and monitor each student's customized educational program. Our small class size allows us to maintain this benefical one to one student and staff relationship. We house fewer than 100 students, and our advisory caseload averages 10 students per teacher.
We believe that customized plans incentivize learning in a way that students are empowered to take ownership of their education. We predominately serve students who are interested in having more influence over their education and who, for a variety of reasons, have not yet reached their potential in a traditional setting.
At our charter school, we allow our students to be in charge of their own educational experience. We focus on project-based learning, a technique that lets students design and execute their own projects with teacher guidance. With project-based learning, students can chase their own interests while displaying all they’ve learned in the classroom so far.
Our students meet all of the Minnesota Academic Standards for high school graduation. They do so in a way that best utilizes their learning style and celebrates their strengths. One of the greatest benefits from project-based learning comes from the inherent life skills that are developed through projects, including:
